Ujima

Ujimas are Academic tutors who provide high dosage, one-on-one virtual tutoring at least three times a week to our Fellows. They are individuals dedicated to the success of Black children. Ujima is a Swahili word and is the third principle of Kwanzaa – “collectively work and responsibility.” To us, Ujimas are collectively working and hold themselves accountable and responsible for the success of ABLE Fellows. They are part of a carefully crafted network of tutors who offer consistent tutoring for fellows.

We seek collaborative individuals committed to the holistic well-being of Black children. Through ABLE’s village approach, students will achieve success that will reflect in their home, school, and community lives. We seek individuals to engage, tutor, instruct, and support our fellows from the point of view that Black children’s and their families’ lives matter 365 days and affirm “Black folx humanity” (Love, 2019, p. 12). We seek individuals and professionals committed to the success of Black students. We invite professionals who view our families from a strength-based perspective and will collaborate with them with the mindset that it takes a village for our children to thrive and flourish.
