Imani Champion

ABLE Community Liaison  – Part-time flexible up to 30 hours per week, may require evenings and weekend work. We seek individuals who believe in our people and our families. In this capacity, Imani Champions are family and community liaisons. Imani Champions are responsible for a specific group of ABLE fellows and their families. They provide direct outreach to ABLE families. Imani Champions support and facilitate communication between ABLE Fellows, families, and the ABLE program. Imani Campions provide check-in with families to ensure engagement in ABLE is running smoothly (tutoring, attendance, care package, digital device, wifi access…).  A criminal history, background check, and sexual offender check are required on all candidates.

Overview of Job Description

  • Represents the ABLE program and interacts with the local community on its behalf.
  • Perform outreach, sourcing, recruitment and engagement of potential ABLE participants and fellows
  • May conduct training, disseminate information and provide programming for community members
  • Planning, development and implementation of academy programs
  • Must strictly honor the privacy, security and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to state, federal and college regulations

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability, desire and commitment to work with Black children
  • Skilled organizing community events, conducting outreach and building relationships 
  • Excellent communication, writing, public speaking and workshop delivery skills
  • Performs duties with empathy, sensitivity, understanding and supportive attitude
  • Must be sensitive to the needs of Black students and families with diverse needs, backgrounds and abilities

Experience

  • Program planning, community engagement, administration 
  • Experience in a customer-centric or liaison role
  • Experience working with Black Families
  • Experience relationship building and representing not for profit organizations
